The GWORD version 7.6 was recently released, and it adds a really useful feature: a floating keyboard mode.

Floating keyboard mode in the Gboard makes your typing experience more flexible. This pops out a keyboard window, even if it is on the screen or in the upper left corner.

Now, this is not a novel feature by any means, but once you've used it in the keyboard app, then it's another app to make it harder to change. That's why we're glad to have Google's keyboard app get such new features. Floating keyboard shows here.

As you can see from the screenshots above, you can activate the floating keyboard mode from the expanded menu in the top left corner of the keyboard. After enabling it, you can freely move the keyboard window anywhere you want and even resize it to your liking. I noticed that the default size of the floating window is pretty small for me, so the option to resize the keyboard really comes in handy.
The update has already been pushed to the stable channel. You can download or update Gboard from the Google Play Store listing below.

Users of Google's own Android keyboard app In an update that is rolling out, a new floating keyboard feature lets you see the location of the keyboard as you see fit.

This is something that is unique to Gboard by any means; Floating keyboards have been available in other keyboard apps for a while, so this is just Google playing catch-up. But for existing users - as well as those people who are looking for a reason to try out - this update is great news.

In addition to being able to free the keyboard from its normal location, the latest update also allows you to resize the keyboard. To switch to floating mode, you need to tap the keyboard - just as when switching to Gboard to other modes.

With the Floating option selected, you can move the keyboard around the screen by dragging it with four arrows bulge at the bottom. To resize, simply grab the resizing handles

You can download Gboard from Google Play, or you can just check for updates if you are already a user.
